I think we are at the tiny-things-set-you-off stage of grieving. Mum had lent us several pairs of 'diabetes socks' for Claire, they have very soft elastic so don't restrict the circulation in your feet. The temperature and circulation were a constant source of concern. One of the pairs was mismatched. A few days after she died mum said she found the other pair of mismatched socks, and she wondered if Claire's pair had gone off with her to the funeral home. She said she liked the idea that one pair would always be with Claire while she wore the other. But I found them in the drawer, and gave them back. We sent her body off in comfy pyjamas, and in the end decided that was ok and found no need to dress her up for the funeral. We gathered last Friday to bid our goodbyes. Everyone cried, but still managed to get through what they needed to say. Mat's choice of 'Sultans of Swing' serenaded us out of the room at the end. We had the after party (which I refuse to call a wake) in mum and dad's garden. The sun shone for us. And large quantities of crumble were eaten.
Stay safe. Be kind.
