D is for La Danse

Matisse website
Henri Matisse is recognised as one of the earliest modernist painters, and though considered part of the Fauvist movement even after the movement declined he continued to develop new influences and his work was much admired and sought after. His works are now on display in museums worldwide. This painting, La Danse, one of two versions of the same painting painted between 1909 and 1910; the image was also used for a much larger mural painted in 1932.
